Department of Mechanical EngineeringENRICHMENT ACTIVITIES
Final Year Design Projects
The third year undergraduate students have to conduct a one-year Final Year Design Project (MECH 4980 & MECH 4990) supervised by a faculty member. This FYDP project aims to develop a prototype of a working mechanical system, such as a walking robot, a micro fuel cell or a solar-powered water purification system, for example. In general, each FYDP team has three to five students. Students will meet once a week and submit one-page meeting minutes to the supervisor. Students will submit a summary report in a bi-weekly meeting with the supervisor. These minutes and bi-weekly summary reports will be appended to the reports to be submitted at the end of each semester.

There will be two full reports, the Progress Report and the Final Report, which are submitted by each team at the end of the Fall and Spring semesters, respectively. Both reports should follow the departmental format and guidelines. In addition, there will be two oral presentations at the end of Fall and Spring semesters. The Progress Presentation can be made by two representative team members, whereas the Final Presentation should be made by all members of each group. The evaluation panel consists of faculty members from one of the three streams in the department.
