The appointee will provide program and clerical support to the Department. Duties include providing administrative support to the Department’s undergraduate/postgraduate programs; supporting the research program in Shenzhen; maintenance of the departmental website; database management; and performing any other duties as assigned. Working outside normal office hours and travelling to Shenzhen will be occasionally required.

Applications are invited for a full-time Visiting Assistant Professor position. Applicants should possess a PhD degree in mechanical engineering or a closely related field, and have a strong commitment and dedication to undergraduate education. The successful candidate is expected to teach three to four undergraduate-level courses per year; lead the undergraduate Co-op and Internship programs; develop industrial partnership to strengthen the Co-op and Internship programs; and provide student support and assist in the operation of the undergraduate mentorship program.

Research Associate

The appointee will perform first-principle calculations for phonon and electron transport properties of low-dimensional structures; model and analyze the calculated properties and explore the corresponding transport mechanisms; and communicate research progress internally to the research group and externally through peer reviewed publications.

Applicants should have a PhD degree in mechanical engineering, materials science, physics or chemistry; familiarity with one of the common software packages for first-principle calculations, such as VASP, Abinit, Wien2K or Material Studio; and extensive experience in first-principle calculations on thermal or electric properties. Expertise in density function theory and semiconductor physics is highly preferred. Strong technical analysis and communication skills are required and must be supported by research publications in peer reviewed journals. (Duration: 1 year, renewable)
