Program Assistant
The appointee will provide program and clerical support to the Department. Duties include providing administrative support to the Department’s undergraduate/postgraduate programs; supporting the research program in Shenzhen; maintenance of the departmental website; database management; and performing any other duties as assigned. Working outside normal office hours and travelling to Shenzhen will be occasionally required.

Applicants should have 5 passes including English (min. Grade C if Syllabus A or level 2 if results were obtained from 2007 onwards) in the HKCEE. Holders of diploma, associate degree or above with strong IT background are welcome to apply. Applicants should be a good team player and be well versed with MS Office applications, including English and Chinese word-processing, Access, Excel, FrontPage and PowerPoint. Knowledge in web authoring applications (such as Photoshop and Dreamweaver) will be an advantage. A good command of spoken English and Putonghua is expected. (Duration: 1 year, renewable)

Visiting Assistant Professor
Applications are invited for a full-time Visiting Assistant Professor position. Applicants should possess a PhD degree in mechanical engineering or a closely related field, and have a strong commitment and dedication to undergraduate education. Preference will be given to candidates with strong local connection in Hong Kong. The successful candidate is expected to teach three to four undergraduate-level courses per year; lead the undergraduate Co-op and Internship programs; develop industrial partnership to strengthen the Co-op and Internship programs; and provide student support and assist in the operation of the undergraduate mentorship program.

Initial appointment is for one year, renewable subject to mutual agreement and funding availability. Salary is competitive with fringe benefits, including medical/dental benefits and annual leave. A gratuity will also be payable upon successful completion of contract.

Research Associate
The appointee will perform first-principle calculations for phonon and electron transport properties of low-dimensional structures; model and analyze the calculated properties and explore the corresponding transport mechanisms; and communicate research progress internally to the research group and externally through peer reviewed publications.

Applicants should have a PhD degree in mechanical engineering, materials science, physics or chemistry; familiarity with one of the common software packages for first-principle calculations, such as VASP, Abinit, Wien2K or Material Studio; and extensive experience in first-principle calculations on thermal or electric properties. Expertise in density function theory and semiconductor physics is highly preferred. Strong technical analysis and communication skills are required and must be supported by research publications in peer reviewed journals. (Duration: 1 year, renewable)

Research Associate Opening
A research associate is sought to develop ultrasensitive nanosensors and/or nanoscale cooling systems in the Department of Mechanical Engineering. Applicants should have a doctoral degree. PostDoctoral/ Visiting Scholar Opening
A PostDoctoral / Visiting Scholar Position in the area of BEM simulation of large-scale systems is available immediately. Candidates who have a good programming skill and a strong background in BEM, acceleration techniques and solid mechanics are particularly encouraged to apply.

Qualification: Applicants with a PhD degree is preferred. However, if a person has several-year experiences in the same field, he or she will also be considered.
